THE QUEST FOR THE PERFECT DRESS

When you're 4'9", finding a flattering wedding dress that is beautiful in its own right but doesn't overwhelm your petite frame is not an easy task.

I tried on a few different dresses at bridal stores in New York City before realizing that I needed to go straight to a designer who deeply understood how to dress very short women!

Reem Acra was the answer to my prayers.

She is a petite woman herself, and she assured me that she would make my dress to my exact proportions in a way that would not only be flattering, but lengthening as well!

I knew immediately that her "Tying the Knot" dress was the one. It was the first wedding dress I tried on that filled me with confidence, and I couldn't stop smiling. If you have a giddy grin while wearing a dress and you are so comfortable in your body that you don't want to take it off - you know you've found your wedding dress!

While I loved the dress as Reem had originally designed it, I'm a gold girl, so I couldn't help but ask if we could change the silver beading to gold.

To my surprise, Reem agreed to this customization request, and we also changed the inner fabric to a light ivory in an effort to increase the contrast and let the gold and pearl embellishments really shine!

We were all a bit nervous since this was the first time this dress had ever been customized in this way, and I only had a small sample of the gold beading and my own white t-shirt to use as a reference for how the entire dress would look!

I'm so glad we went forward with these customizations because the finished product was completely one-of-a-kind and truly everything I could have ever hoped for in a wedding dress.

ACCESSORIES

I have been in love with Anna Marguerite's work for quite a while, so I knew that I had to incorporate her tiaras into my wedding.

The delicate flowers in the Myrtle Tiara matched perfectly with the floral beading on my wedding dress. I also loved the fact that this tiara was inspired by antique myrtle tiaras of the late 1800s- early 1900s.

Anna Marguerite is a small family business and everything they create is truly so special. I encourage you all to check her out and consider wearing some of her headpieces on your wedding day or to your next big event!

I wanted to add some height to my 4'9" frame for the wedding day without sacrificing comfort. I am not exaggerating when I say that I probably tried on about 30 pairs (maybe more!) of platform shoes and these sandals from Tory Burch were the most comfortable.

They're not available from Tory Burch's website anymore, but I did find them for sale in a few places online.
